White Planter Inspired by Kelly Wearstler

I have a serious problem with fixation. This is particularly true when I stumble upon that perfect accent. Once it gets on my radar, I have a hard time thinking about anything else. Thank goodness it doesn’t happen too often!  When I toured the Southern Living 50th Anniversary Idea House a few years ago, though, I was on major fixation alert when I saw the Kelly Wearstler Linden lamps featured in Ashley Gilbreath Interior Design’s entry way. I loved everything about them. The oversized dimensions, the fun silhouette of round spheres which covered the whole base...I was in love. Trouble was, I really didn’t need table lamps, and I truly didn’t have the room in my home for the lamps’ scale, if I could find a place for them. But the clincher was my budget. I just couldn’t justify spending $800+ for a lamp — especially if I purchased one, I wanted a pair.
I can’t remember exactly when I began thinking about translating the design to an overscale vase or bowl, but suddenly, I COULD envision  several places in my home where such a planter would look beautiful. Happy Happy. I began to search  correct size marble/bead, I also began wondering how I was going to add said bead, with its curved surface, onto the planter.  I’m very blessed for many reasons, but one in particular is that I’m married to engineer who enjoys being a problem solver.  And what did he come home with last month but the perfect dimension wood “bead” that also had a flat side, making adhering the bead easy!!
Next we went on the hunt for an oversized planter, and wouldn’t you know, At Home was having a sale on the their glazed ceramic planters. We found the perfect size and after a bit of debate about spacing, T glued on the beads and began painting the finished design. The result is at left. Isn’t it fabulous?  It has all the elements I loved about the Linden lamp, but is much better suited to my home and furnishings.  I used the urn for my Palm Beach Style birthday luncheon, and it set off the table perfectly!!
